Resorts in the Caribbean...

Traveling around the world is one of the most interesting things to do that I know of.

It enables you to explore the beauty of the world as well as the culture, customs, practices, traditions and people of the each place you been. Plus it gives you a chance to experience their lifestyle as well as learn their entire history and how they built their community or nation at large.

http://www.breezes.com/images/slideshow/homepage/photo1.jpg

Even I myself was dreaming about traveling the world, aside from the fact that I wanted to relax and unwind together with loved ones. One specific reason why I opted to travel or try a Caribbean vacation package was basically to live their lifestyle and eventually explore the variety of their foods, and other delicacies.

Specifically, I wanted to visit those popular restaurants in specific cities where I wished to explore. The reason behind that is that I love food! I love to cook as well as explore the other culture's food. I've actually tasted the food of Thailanders, Japanese, Chinese, Americans, Italians, Arab nations and India. I know, I only have tasted some so far, but soon I hope to taste those foods I have not yet tried.

In fact, I was planning to take my annual vacation on a beautiful resort in the Caribbean and planned to stay for a couple of days. Besides, its a company expense and all I need to bring is just some of my clothes and a bit of cash. I am excited about it. But I can probably only book my vacation by next month as I need to fix things at work first.

One of the places I want to visit aside from the resort in Caribbean is Runaway Bay in Jamaica, where they offer a great holiday vacation adventure while relaxing and enjoying all kind of luxuries. Hopefully I'll get the chance to explore the place.

What more can I say? Wish me luck everyone! Hopefully, you guys will gonna have a great vacation too. Enjoy!

Travel Info: Isla Naburot, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, Philippines

Isla Naburot on the west coast of Guimaras is sheer paradise. It is a little wooded islet, with a semi-circular, golden beach that leads to a coral lagoon. The main attraction of Isla Naburot, apart from its setting, is the uniqueness of its architectural style.

Anne Saldana, the daughter of the owners, is there to welcome you upon your arrival. She lives on the island and supervises the operations of the resort. Warm and discreetly attentive to the needs of the guests, she is also an excellent cook, as you will experience when you try the restaurant.

The houses, dispersed among frangipani trees, hibiscus, bougainvillea and cycads were constructed in the 1970s. Initially conceived as family vacation house, the architecture was mostly the brainchild f Anne’s mother, Mrs. Alice Saldana. A doctor by profession and an antique collector, she has a wealth of imagination — and taste. The best use was made of natural, unusual, organic materials: pebbles and shells, roots and knotted tree trunks, driftwood retrieved from the beach, fragments of the blue and white Chinese porcelain. She also recovered odd pieces from old houses: wooden doors, floors, and shutters. What may seem eccentric is in fact a charming, alluring ensemble. The houses are furnished with beautiful antique furniture: planter’s armchairs, cupboards and benches. The floors are made of either beautifully polished wood or 1920s tiles. In the bathrooms, towels and sarongs are laid out for you in giant clam shells. Mirrors bordered with the exception of a mosquito net swaying in the breeze, there is nothing to separate you from the starry sky and sound of the waves.

You have a choice between the stone houses, distinctly different but equally superb, and the wooden cottages on a promontory over the dining area. The cottages, smaller and less impressive compared to the houses, are very welcoming and quite independent. Cottage 1, with a bathroom overlooking the lagoon is extraordinary. A little house is right on the beach, but is too close to the kitchen and the dining area.

If you need more spacious lodgings, you can stay at the family house facing the main beach. The ground floor houses the resort’s library and a piano. The main rooms on the second floor have balconies that look out to the sea. A few meters away, tucked into a cove, is another house with its own private beach. It has billiard table on the ground floor and rooms upstairs overlooking the beach. The inconvenience is that it cannot be concealed from the exterior by either windows, shutters or curtains.

On the other side of the island, five minutes on foot, are two houses perched on a cliff that enjoy a fabulous view. The “house on the cliff” is particularly dramatic on its rocky spur, resembling sentry on guard. It can only be occupied on special request, as the owners prefer to leave it open to guests keen on watching the sunset or relaxing in one of the hammocks. The other house is accessible from the family house by a mossy stone staircase. It is very pleasant with a terrace on the ground floor with a view of the sea. The restaurant/dining area is an open wood structure right on the beach. The sand itself serves as flooring. Everything is cooked in large earthenware pots over woodfire. Mealtimes are veritable feasts — a moment of the day to savor.

How to get there

By air, land and sea, 65-minute daily flights on PAL, Air Philippines or Cebu Pacific from Manila to Iloilo, 15-30 minutes by car from Iloilo airport to the pier, 1 hour by banca from the pier to the resort.

Land Adventures in Philippines...

On just all about of Philippines’ 7107 islands, you can find exhilarating extreme adventures that allow you to explore our natural wonders.

Mountain Biking

Whether you’re a hardcore downhiller, or a jungle trail rider, or you simply crave for a leisure ride on flat bike trails, the Philippines is for you and you don’t even have to go far from Manila. There are excellent bike bike trails in the outskirts of the capital namely those in San Mateo, Rizal, and Santa Rosa, Laguna. But for demanding technical riding, you must try out the Aeta Jungle Luge trail in Subic Bay Freeport, or head off to Baguio City. It’s a jump-off point for many mountain bike trails that begin at the outskirts of the city and take riders as far as La Union and Nueva Vizcaya. Sagada is also a popular destination for mountain bikers. The Visaya Region is likewise dotted with dozens of trails like the Die Hard Trail in Loboc, Bohol.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing has caught on big in the Philippines. There are currently about a dozen indoor walls in Metro Manila, plus great outdoor sites near Mania. Montalban, with its limestone cliffs as high as 300 feet, is a popular destination. There are also terrific cliffs near Baguio in the north, and down south in Atimonan, Quezon. But for a truly exotic rock climbing experience, check out the spectacular cliffs at El Nido and Coron; near the world-class beach resorts of Palawan.

Trekking

The Philippines is full of great trekking and mountaineering spots. Mountaineers flock to the nation’s highest peaks, like Mount Pulag in the north and Mount Apo, the country’s highest peak, in the southern island of Mindanao. But there are other great hiking and trekking sites, like the eerily beautiful Mount Pinatubo crater. Light treks can also be enjoyed in the outlying provinces of Metro Manila, like Laguna, Batangas, and Bulacan.

Cave Exploration

The Philippines is a haven for cave exploration enthusiasts. The caves in Sagada feature spectacular lime formations. These caves are also ancestral burial sites for the local indigenous people. the famous Callao cave has a “chapel” made of gothic-like arches formed by stalagmites and stalactites. And at dusk, visitors are treated to the sights of thousands of bats streaming out of the mouth of the cave. Meanwhile in Palawan, you can explore the St. Paul Subterranean River, the world’s longest underground waterway. No doubt there are still hundreds of fascinating caves in the Philippines that are still waiting to be discovered.

Bird Watching

The Philippines is truly a birdwatcher’s dream. The country is home to over 760 species of birds, including some of the rarest species in the world. The Candaba Swamp in Pampanga is a well-known bird sanctuary. As a stopover for birds migrating from the north Asia, rare birds like the Eurasian spoonbill and schrenck’s bittern have been spotted there. The Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary, near Cebu, is also a paradise for birdwatchers. Over 50 different species of migratory birds have been spotted here, including the rare Chinese egret.

Philippine Beaches...

Honda Bay, Palawan, Philippines

Despite its outstanding natural beauty, Palawan's 1,770 islands have been one of the least developed holiday destinations in Southeast Asia [apart from the famous El Nido Resorts]. So far the lack of commercialism has made Palawan very special, but it is becoming more popular particularly for international divers, as well as adventurers.

The ideal place for sun seekers and snorkellers is Honda Bay, which has several islets including Cannon Island, Bat Island and Starfish Island, with coral reefs breaking crystal clear water onto empty, fine white sand beaches. Arreceffi Island contains the luxury Dos Palmas Resort, while lesser accommodation can be found on other islands, or stay at Puerto Princesa and take a half hour boat trip to your favourite deserted beach.

Palawan also offers the Philippines' best dive spot at the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park, a World Heritage Site. Dive boats operate from March to May and can be arranged at Puerto Princesa, Palawan's capital. The city also offers all sorts of jungle eco-hikes and an 8.2 km underground river trip. Best Dec-May. Possible heavy rains June- November, but not necessarily.

Malapascua Island, Cebu

This tiny island, situated at the northeast tip of Cebu Island, is relatively new to the international market, but already rates highly on the the list of world's best beaches - some say it is the new Boracay.

This has also become a major dive centre, famous for the crowds of thresher sharks using the marine highway between Cebu and Leyte islands. Driest Feb-May, but OK the rest of the year too with mostly short spells of rain. Worst Oct-Dec.

Bantayan Island, Cebu

Bantayan island, 15km from the northern tip of Cebu is well-known for its powder white sands and crystal clear water, especially along the southwest coast. It is a low-key, laid-back resort with friendly locals. The beaches are considered as some of the most inviting resorts, particularly around Santa Fe. If you looking for a virgin paradise, try nearby Puo Island. Driest Feb-May, but OK the rest of the year too with mostly short spells of rain. Worst Oct-Dec.

Muelle Bay, Puerto Galera, Mindoro Island

Puerto Galera is an ideal place to do island-hopping from Luzon or a place to laze on pristine white sands and clear, warm water. The most popular beaches for swimming are White beach and Tamaraw Beach, while beaches near Sabang have best facilities for coral-cruising. For more tranquility try Big and Small Laguna Beaches. Puerto Galera also offers excellent inland nature walks. Best Nov-June. OK July-Oct [an occasional typhoon will bring rain/wind/rough seas for 2 or 3 days].

Puraran Beach, Catanduanes Island

Catanduanes Island lies in the Pacific Ocean just off Luzon and is one of the Philippines' major surf venues. Puraran Beach's white sand is very appealing, but currents can be dangerous in the surfing season [October].

There are other white sandy beaches, for instance Pamangal Beach near San Andres town or Igang Beach. Note that this is one of the wettest provinces of the country. Best April-June. Worst Nov-January.

Bunch of Fives: Must know streets...

Finding your way around Abu Dhabi's main island streets is a piece of cake, provided you know all the names of the main streets - and not just one time - they all have a name, a nickname and a number.

1. Airport Road, 2nd Street: Bisecting the city from Maqta Bridge all the way to the Corniche, this major artery links up to Sheikh Zayed road on the mainland over Maqta Bridge, or you can keep going straight to Al Ain.

2. Electra, Zayed the First and Second, 7th Street: Crossing the T-section of Airport Road, only veterans of the city would call this busy street Electra. Often the most direct route across the city, Electra begins at Le Meridien Hotel and cust straight through Khalidiya all the way to the InterContinental hotel.

3. Old Airport Road, Muroor Road, 4th Street: Back in the olden days, Muroor Road was the high street of Abu Dhabi. Home to the main post office, Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre and the Al Muhairy centre (the Chilis'building), Muroor serves as an alternative to Airport Road.

4. Khaleej Al Arabi, 3oth Street: The main byway linking residents of the Khalifa Cities and Mussafah to the city, 30th is one of the easiest routes from the mainland to the Corniche. The timed traffic lights help keep traffic under control and will take you from the public beach through Khalidiya and all the way out to the airport.

5. Eastern Ring Road, East Road, Salam Street, 8th Street: One of the most confusing streets in the capital, this construction weary street will soon be a major route for those living on Reem island. For now, it's the only way to get to Park Rotana and twofour54.

Travel Destination: Tagaytay City, Philippines...

Legend has it that the word “Tagaytay” came from “TAGA” meaning “to cut” and “ITAY” which means “Father”. A father and son were said to be on a wild boar hunt when the animal they were chasing turned and attacked them. As the boar charged towards the old man, the son cried “TAGA- ITAY”. The boy’s repeated shouts reverberated in the valleys of the ridge. Heard by the residents, hunters and wood gatherers, the cries became the subject of conversation for several days among the people in the countryside. In time, the place where the shouts came from became known as TAGAYTAY.

During the Philippine Revolution of 1896, the ridges and forests of Tagaytay became the sanctuary for revolutionaries including of those from nearby provinces. The passage to and from towns via Tagaytay added the word “Mananagaytay” to the native’s vocabulary. It means “to traverse ridges”.

At the outbreak of the Second World War, the 11th Airborne Division of Lieutenant General William Krueger’s 8th Army airdropped military supplies and personnel on the Tagaytay Ridge prior to the Liberation of Manila from the Japanese. A marker was installed in 1951 at the junction of the Manila-Canlubang-Nasugbu roads by the city officials in coordination with the Philippine Historical Institute.

Tagaytay became a chartered City on June 21, 1938 when President Manuel L. Quezon signed Commonwealth Act No. 338, a bill authored by Representative Justiniano S. Montano of Cavite.

AREA AND TOPOGRAPHY

The city has a total land area of 65.00 square kilometers or 6,500 hectares. Tagaytay City is characterized by mixed topography. The southern and eastern portions are covered by hills and mountains which are generally forests and open grasslands. There are ridge areas with slopes ranging from 10.1 to over 25 percent. On the other hand, the portions adjoining the municipalities of Mendez, Indang, Amadeo and Silang are level to nearby level areas interspersed with very gently sloping surface. The built-up areas including the urban center are situated in these relatively level portions of the city..

CLIMATE

Tagaytay City’s climate is characterized by relatively low temperature, low humidity and abundant rainfall. The city is endowed with a cool and invigorating climate with an average temperature of 22.7 degrees Celsius. The city is misty and is relatively cooler during the months of December, January and February. Like most areas in the Province of Cavite, the city has two pronounced seasons: dry from November to April and wet during the rest of the year.

Britons Can't Do Without Their Red Phone Boxes

Many Britons are seeing red about British Telecom's decision to destroy the red telephone-box structures that dot the landscape all over the country.
The sentiment seems to be one of nostalgia more than practicality, since the U.K. boasts one of the highest rates of mobile phone ownership in the world. For many people, utility is not the point of the exercise. They just don't want to see the red boxes pulled down.

Even though the telephone boxes seems like they've been around forever, they have been parts of communities only since the late 1930s. Painted the same color as post boxes, the telephone boxes have provided many an opportunity for generations of people to make a quick phone call while on the go.

An exhaustive count of the countryside in 2002 revealed the existence of about 17,000 red telephone boxes all around Britain. That's a lot of real estate to maintain at 800 pounds (British money) a year, which is what it costs British Telecom to maintain each phone box. More than half no longer pay for themselves, and a recent study found that a full 10 percent of phone boxes were used no more than once a month.

In recent years, people have warmed to British Telecom's "Adopt a Kiosk" program, which allows local government organizations to buy their phone box for one pound, with the understanding that the phone inside will no longer work.

That suits many people just fine, since it's the box – not the telephone inside – that evokes nostalgia. Many boxes have been transformed to suit other purposes, including gardens, bulletin boards, and even a library. One phone box in Somerset contains a mannequin created by the primary school nearby.

The big picture for nostalgic Britons and photo opportunity-seeking tourists is that the phone boxes will remain, even if they no longer serve their primary function. By: socialstudiesforkids.com

Travel Info: General Santos City, Philippines...

General Santos City, or simply GenSan, has gained prominence, not just in Region XII but in the entire country for being on the cutting edge in terms of economic stability, growth and tourism potential. Through the efforts of its citizens, the city has gained a reputation as being business and tourist friendly.
Geography

General Santos is located in South Cotabato. Beside it are the three municipalities of Sarangani and two municipalities of South Cotabato. GenSan is situated off the southeast of Cebu and Manila, and just a little southwest of Davao. The total land area is 180 sq. miles, or 490 sq. km. It has an elevation of 50 ft.(15m) and has a population of a little over half a million.

Natural Resources

The geographical location of the city, like Davao, makes it an ideal place for planting and sowing crops. With 30% of the land ripe for agriculture, General Santos has become very competitive in the production of prime commodities. Among its numerous products are rice, corn asparagus, okra, and an assortment of export quality
fruits and vegetables.

Economic Infrastructure

A sound infrastructure is needed for any city to attract investors, and General Santos excels in this department. Basic necessities, like power and water are provided for by the Napocor (National Power Corporation) and the GSC Water District, respectively.
The transport sector has also been well established. The General Santos International Airport is the most modern in Mindanao. With a runway over 9,000 feet long, it is more than capable of handling the largest passenger airlines.

The Makar Wharf, on the other hand, is regarded as the finest in the region, if not the country. With a 2,400 ft. docking length, and about 63 ft. wide, it has become the primary shipping port, and is always busy with ships transporting goods and cargo.
Through the Pan-Philippine Highway, General Santos is no considered as a gateway city to all parts of Mindanao, and also linking it with the other cities in the country.

These elements have combined to make one of the most economically vibrant cities. All the institutions that one would expect in a first class city that one expects, like banks, universities, government offices, etc. can be found throughout the city.

History

Very little is known of the history of the Cotabato region before the pre-Hispanic era, except that it was mostly populated by Muslims. When the Spanish arrived, they encountered heavy resistance from the Muslims, as was often the case in Mindanao. The situation repeated itself when the Americans came.

After the region was liberated by the Allied Forces in 1945, the entire region began experiencing growth, with several companies setting up businesses This trend continued well into the late 1950s and 60s. and by July 1968, through Republic Act No. 5412 General Santos was declared a city. Today, the city is classified into 26 barangays.

The people are known for being hospitable and friendly. The dominant religions are Christianity and Islam, although the influx of foreigners and peoples from other lands have seen the emergence of other beliefs as well.

Entertainment

General Santos has become a big draw for tourists for several reasons. Those who like to experience the best of modern life can get it with shopping malls, movie houses, restaurants and a wide range of hotels and inns.

Those who want to get a glimpse of the culture and history should look no further than its various festivals, which tell the story of the city and province through colorful parades and dances. There are also several landmarks such as the tunnels, waterfalls and camping grounds.

Lesson about family vacation..

What's the purpose behind a family vacation? Is it only about gathering, playing, smiling, swimming and some other usual things we do during vacation. Is it only about that? or There's something more important why we garther for a reason? Well, basically we tend to have a vacation for some definite and individual reason.

In my own point of view, family vacation is indeed important basically because we need to renew the vows of love and care for our family. We need to secure and full them of love as much as possible. Its the only way we can assure them that no matter what happens the strong bonds you tightly imposed will not be broken.

Remember, we just humans after all. We can never be perfect but can be perfected. So, as much as possible we need to get away from any temptations that might possibly harm the relationship we had for our partner, silings and family at large.

Si therefore conclude that family vacation is indeed crucial for each of us to learn how to value our family not for any reason but because blood by blood you are counted as one. So, if you guys wants to have a great vacation better grab the chance now to visit the great and amazing place of Cancun, Mexico. This place is totally amazing!

Travel Info: Philippine Wonders Mayon Volcano

Mayon is an active stratovolcano. The current cone was formed through pyroclastic and lava flows from past eruptions. Mayon is the most active of the active volcanos in the Philippines, having erupted over 49 times in the past 400 years.

Mt.Mayon

It is located on the eastern side of Luzon, beside the Philippine Trench which is the convergent boundary where the Philippine Sea Plate is driven under the Philippine Mobile Belt. Where a continental plate or belt of continental fragments meets an oceanic plate, the lighter continental material overrides the oceanic plate, forcing it down into the earth’s mantle. Magma, formed where the rock melts, may be forced through weaknesses in the continental crust caused by the collision of the tectonic plates. One such exit point is Mayon.

Like other volcanoes located around the rim of the Pacific Ocean, Mayon is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Mayon has had forty-nine eruptions in recorded history. The first recorded eruption was in 1616, the last major eruption ceased on 1 October 2006, although a devastating lahar followed on 30 November 2006. A further summit eruption occurred on 10 August 2008. Mayon Volcano on September 23, 1984

The most destructive eruption of Mayon occurred on February 1, 1814. Lava flowed but not as much compared to the 1766 eruption. Instead, the volcano was belching dark ash and eventually bombarding the town with tephra that buried the town of Cagsawa—only the bell tower of the town’s church remained above the new surface. Trees were burned; rivers were certainly damaged. Proximate areas were also devastated by the eruption with ash accumulating to 9 m (30 ft) in depth. 2,200 Albay locals perished in what is considered to be the most lethal eruption in Mayon’s history.

Mayon Volcano’s longest uninterrupted eruption occurred on June 23, 1897 which lasted for seven days of raining fire. Lava once again flowed down to civilization. Seven miles eastward, the village of Bacacay was buried 15 m (49 ft) beneath the lava. In Libog, 100 people were declared dead—incinerated by steam and falling debris or hot rocks. Other villages like San Roque, Misericordia and Santo NiƱo became deathtraps. Ash was carried in black clouds as far as 160 km (100 mi) from the catastrophic event. More than 400 persons were killed.
